How to choose the specifications and models of CNC cutting tools in CNC machining? CNC machine tools are commonly used in CNC workshops, and the quality of CNC cutting tools directly affects the accuracy of the processed workpiece.

When selecting the type and specifications of CNC tools, the following factors are mainly considered:

(1) Production nature

Here, production inventory refers to the quantity of a large number of spare parts, mainly from the perspective of processing costs and tool selection.

For example, using special tools in batch production may be cost-effective, while selecting standard tools in single piece or small batch production is more appropriate.

(2) Machine type

The application of CNC machine tools in precision machining is beneficial for high-speed cutting tools, which can ensure good rigidity of the workpiece and tool system while using large feed turning tools.

(3) CNC machining plan

Different types of CNC tools can be used for different CNC machining schemes. For example, drilling and reaming tools or drilling and boring tools can be used to machine holes.

(4) The size and shape of the workpiece

The size and shape of the workpiece also affect the selection of tool type and specifications. For example, special tools should be used to treat special surfaces.

(5) Machined surface roughness

The surface roughness of machining affects the structural shape and cutting parameters of the cutting tool. For example, coarse tooth milling cutters can be used for rough milling, and fine tooth milling cutters can be used for precision milling.

(6) Processing accuracy

The machining accuracy affects the type and structural shape of precision machining tools. For example, the processing of holes can be carried out through drilling, reaming drills, reamers, or boring cutters based on the accuracy of the holes.

(7) Workpiece material

The material of the workpiece will determine the selection of tool material and the geometric parameters of the cutting part. The cutting tool material is related to the machining accuracy and material hardness of the workpiece.

Due to the characteristics of high machining accuracy, high machining efficiency, concentrated machining processes, and fewer parts clamping times, CNC machine tools used have higher requirements. In terms of tool performance, CNC tools should be higher than ordinary machine tools.

When selecting CNC tools, choose standard tools, and if necessary, choose various composite and specialized tools.

When choosing a CNC machine tool, the following aspects should also be considered:

(1) The model, specifications, and accuracy level of CNC machine tools should meet the processing requirements, and the cutting materials should be compatible with the workpiece materials.

(2) Good cutting performance. In order to adapt to the high feed rate and high feed rate of the tool during rough machining or difficult to machine material workpiece processing, the tool should be able to withstand high-speed cutting and strong cutting. At the same time, the cutting performance and tool life of the same batch of tools need to be stable in order to achieve tool replacement based on their service life or control tool life through CNC system order management.

(3) High precision. In order to meet the requirements of high-precision CNC machining and automatic tool changing, CNC tools need to have high accuracy. For example, some integral end mills have a radial dimension accuracy of up to 0.005mm.
